Global Housing Technology Challenge
Promoting a sustainable and innovative approach to accelerate affordable urban housing in India.
The Global Housing Technology Challenge (GHTC)-India 2022 invited solutions from around the world, seeking to demonstrate and deliver ready-to-live-in houses in a shorter timeframe, while ensuring affordable, sustainable and higher quality construction. As a Knowledge Partner to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), WRI India supported the overall design and rollout of GHTC-India and managed the accelerator program to support emerging technologies.
Through the challenge, GHTC-India sought emerging, disaster-resilient, environment friendly, cost-effective and speedy construction technologies from all over the world and identified those that would be suitable for adoption in India. Selected technologies got the opportunity to directly work with the Ministry and state governments.
How did WRI India Contribute to GHTC-India?
- WRI India assisted with challenge conceptualization and inclusion of sustainability and community-formation parameters in the Request for Proposal (RfPs) for the construction of 6 Light House Projects of 1000 units each.
- Acceleration workshops were held for post-prototype technologies through the Affordable Sustainable Housing Accelerators – India (ASHA-India) platform, where 10 finalists interacted with domain experts, certification and standardization agencies, procurement agencies and developers. Five winners were felicitated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister.
