Accelerating Freight Electrification in India
On September 7, 2022, NITI Aayog and WRI India launched e-FAST India, the first national electric freight platform, to accelerate road freight electrification. As part of this initiative, Niti Samvaad facilitated discussions with key stakeholders on zero-emission truck adoption, financial models, and operational challenges. Insights from these dialogues informed industry strategies, culminating in a demand signal of 7,750 e-trucks by 16 companies at the 14th Clean Energy Ministerial. The panel also drew lessons from global experiences to guide India's transition.

The global transportation sector, responsible for 25% of energy consumption and 28% of greenhouse gas emissions, faces climate challenges. Freight vehicles, 3% of the vehicular population, contribute significantly to emissions. The e-FAST India initiative, launched on September 7, 2022, addresses these concerns, focusing on road freight electrification.
