Chetan Sodaye
Program Manager - Transport
Chetan Sodaye is Program Manager for the Sustainable Cities and Transport program at WRI India. Specializing in active mobility, his research focuses on enhancing road safety and liveability in cities through improved urban design. Currently working out of Bengaluru, Chetan spearheads numerous safer streets and urban mobility initiatives in collaboration with numerous national, state and city agencies along with local ecosystem. His unwavering dedication is focused on the implementation of innovative revolutionary measures that elevate urban mobility, safety standards, and accessibility for all, making cities more safe, inclusive and resilient.
With over seven years of experience in the urban sector in multiple geographies, his expertise spans across sectors of Urban Mobility, with a focus on human centric streets and public spaces improvement. Previously, he has worked as Project lead at Prasanna Desai Architects, Pune. Some of the key projects being Pune Smart City Inception, Pune Cycle Plan and Urban Cycle Design Guideline. Where he curated and led city wide initiatives along with developing standards for better design and implementation of the initiatives.
Chetan holds a bachelor’s in architecture from Pune University and a master’s in urban design from the CEPT University. His postgraduate research thesis titled ‘Design for sustainable mobility’ - creating compact, walkable and accessible transit friendly neighbourhoods, was published in a National Handbook on Transit Oriented Development by MoHUA, India.
Chetan loves cycling and is highly invested in walking and cycling initiatives.
