Avni Agarwal works as a Senior Program Associate with the Urban Development team. She has been involved in developing Mumbai’s Climate Action Plan and supporting governance interventions to mainstream climate action in Mumbai. She is currently working towards setting up a Climate Action Cell, developing Mumbai’s first Climate Budget and accelerating climate action in Maharashtra’s 43 cities.

She has also worked with the Climate Program at World Resources Institute India, where she was involved in developing climate action plans for seven cities in Madhya Pradesh, capacity-building workshops on climate change for ULB officials, a state-level study to develop a roadmap for mainstreaming climate change & disaster risk management in Kerala, and developing an emission estimation tool based on the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs’ Climate SMART Cities Assessment Framework (CSCAF).

She holds a master’s degree in public policy from St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous), Mumbai, and a bachelor’s degree in International Studies (Major) and Environmental Studies (Minor) from Foundation for Liberal and Management Education (FLAME University), Pune. She lives in Mumbai and enjoys the outdoors, live music, gallery hopping, and backpacking.
